Turning wax waste into certified sustainability action for Irish hospitality.

Murray's Flames operates Ireland's first closed-loop wax recovery and remanufacturing service for the hospitality sector — diverting spent candle wax from disposal and returning it to productive use as premium, recycled candles. This initiative is recognised by the Green Hospitality Programme as a Circular Economy criterion within their Silver and Gold Award certification pathways.

How the Service Works

• Source Capture — We provide specialised, on-site "Clean-Stream" collection bins for your restaurant, spa, and floor staff to easily separate spent pillar and taper candles.
• Localised Refining — Collected material is transported to our facility in Mayo, where it undergoes a proprietary, multi-stage filtration process, cleaning the wax to an 80–90% purity standard.
• Closed-Loop Procurement — The refined material is remanufactured into clean, premium pillar and taper candles. To satisfy Green Hospitality framework criteria, the hotel completes the loop by purchasing and using these certified recycled candles on-site.

Green Hospitality Recognition

"Hotels and hospitality businesses participating in the Green Hospitality Programme may include the closed-loop service and use of candles manufactured through the Murray's Flames closed-loop wax recovery and remanufacturing process as an additional sustainability action within their environmental management programme.

Where a Green Hospitality member can demonstrate that it is actively engaged in this closed-loop service and using candles produced from recovered and remanufactured wax through Murray's Flames, this initiative may be recognised as an additional Circular Economy criterion within the Green Hospitality Silver and Gold Award certification pathways.

This recognition reflects the principles of waste prevention, material recovery, resource efficiency and circular economy best practice by diverting wax materials from disposal and returning them to productive use.

As with all certification criteria, participating businesses must maintain appropriate records to verify implementation during the certification and audit process."
